In Memory of Pam Dashiell
Pam was a founding member of CAWIC and a tireless defender of her Ninth Ward community. She fought the construction of the Industrial Canal lock replacement for nearly two decades. For Pam, the lock project was the leading example of how the Corps of Engineers and navigation interests pursued profits at the expense of the area's residents. Fighting the lock project and promoting coastal restoration were just two of many causes she took up, but they perhaps represent her greatest legacy and gift to the people of New Orleans. On the morning of her death, Pam was scheduled to speak to a state commission charged with guiding coastal restoration. Having never met outside of Baton Rouge, the commission was holding its meeting in the Ninth Ward - conducting its business and getting a tour of the area's potential restoration projects. Thank you Pam, for your decades of service and your tenacity on fighting the lock project. We won't let you down.
